A Note on Armor
The Middle Kingdom lies on the equator, near sea level, and in D&D terms the weather ranges from Hot in the evening to Stifling Hot during the day, with little seasonal variation. In this sweltering, humid environment people wear as little clothing as modesty allows, and they wouldn’t think of donning metal armor, no matter how much protection it might offer!
Because of this, native Alaadians can exchange their chain, scale and plate armor proficiencies for special benefits. If proficient in chain, they can give it up to get a +1 bonus to AC when not wearing heavy armor. If proficient in plate or scale, as well as chain, the benefit is +1 to AC and Reflex when not wearing heavy armor, and the AC bonus improves to +2 at 11th level and +3 at 21st.
